"TASTE THE STRAINBOW"
Working for a colorful and delicious cannabis grower that holds the place of the cleanest leaf in Washington State was a fever dream of information, design, taste testing, photography, and more! And I loved every second of it.
Our relationship started with a grand photoshoot and a gaggle of badass women in the Summer of 2019 before I ultimately joined the team in the early Autumn of 2020.
Initially, I was brought on as a trimmer but was quickly greeted by the R&D team to take products home to play with. I created the custom content below and quickly grew into working alongside them.
Printed Materials
One of the primary modes of marketing, since you can't run legal ads in the Cannabis Industry, was consistently handing out print materials! We focused heavily on terpene and strain education with tri-folds, inserts, poster charts, postcards, and business cards for our flower jars.
A Website Overhaul
Since we weren't allowed to use paid advertising fronts, we needed to get some digital ducks in a row. This meant an overhaul of the website! Adding pages as information-heavy as our print materials, getting photos uniform and up-to-date, capturing mailing leads, and more. They use the Shopify web builder.
Here's a peek at the website but I highly recommend you poke around the real thing: www.trailblazin.net
Photography & Videography
Outside of graphic design, this was probably the biggest job I did for Trail Blazin'. Over the 3-years, thousands and thousands of photos were taken! Layflats, products, garden shots, work in-action, even full-blown model shoots.
I also fell back into a little bit of videography and editing for the sake of their YouTube and Vimeo accounts. It was so much fun to play with life in motion (or stop-motion)! From
Garden Photos
Have you ever shot in a room of hot, sweaty LED grow lights? It's a wild time and each garden was completely different. Getting my lighting just right was key!
And once I was dialed in, I could play with more.
In the Wild
Running around and finding perfect outdoor scenes to frame and promote clean cannabis with was a dream.
Focusing on the smallest details of the world around you is a special kind of magic. Bringing that into a photo while focusing on the cannabis helps highlight its natural medicinal properties. It's a plant and a gift from Mother Earth, not something to fear.
Real Life Humans
My first shoot with Trail Blazin' was a 5-model session on a warm, gray June day (as seen above), so it was always fun to jump back into photographing more of them and model myself sometimes.
Stop Motion
Working with Trail Blazin' was my introduction to stop-motion work! Not because anyone required it but because I work with miniatures and the idea struck. We decided to use 3 of them, 2 on Vimeo and 1 specifically as a Reel (for May the 4th).
I handmade the scenes and props we used for each video, too!
Blazin Trails
Living in the Pacific Northwest means exploring and we took this to heart! Often filming promo work outside on trails, along rivers, in the mountains, you name it. Here's an idea of what that looked like.
